Acoustic Fluid Levels

An Acoustic fluid level measurement unit is used in conjunction with a gas gun/microphone assembly to determine the liquid level depth in a well. Normally, the liquid level depth is determined in the casing annulus, but also, the liquid level depth can be measured inside tubing in gas wells. An acoustic pulse is generated at the surface of the well. The acoustic pulse travels through the gas and is reflected by changes in area including tubing collars and the liquid level. The software automatically processes this acoustic data to determine liquid level depth.

Pumping Fluid Levels

The fluid level in a producing well can be determined using acoustics. Sound is introduced into the casing/tubing annulus and the reflected sound waves are recorded upon their return to the surface. An accurate fluid level is often used to: A fluid level reading, under stable conditions, is perhaps “the best single indicator of whether or not a pumping well is producing at its maximum capacity”.

"Move it to Prove it"

This is a short depression tests. A two shot fluid level with the casing valve closed to figure out the change in pressure over time. This will indicate if you have a true fluid level and not foam, wax plug or any other restrictions. (Please refer to “Fluid Depression Testing”).
